Savers Bank provides a grant to support the Literacy Volunteers of South Central Massachusetts

Savers Bank is supporting the Literacy Volunteers of South Central Massachusetts (LVSCM) by providing a $2,000 grant to pay for their expanded tutor program. The tutor program includes textbooks, instructional materials, professional services and advertising in local publications.

Literacy Volunteers of South Central Massachusetts is committed to providing free individualized literacy assistance and enrichment, primarily through volunteers, for adult residents of South Central Massachusetts with respect and sensitivity to their needs. Their services focus on, tutoring in English language skills for adults whose native language is not English; tutoring in basic literacy skills for adults whose native language is English but whose abilities are below an eighth grade level.

Faced with a back-log of students seeking tutors, LVSCM is seeking to increase their tutor/student pairs via an expanded training program to attract compassionate minded individuals to become involved as active partners in the community. Savers Bank understands the importance of providing literacy assistance to our communities and we’re happy to provide the grant needed to help LVSCM reach their goal of recruiting and training an additional 25 volunteers in this fiscal year.
